Make it Safe, Period.
This program element addresses the contingency capability organizations need in order to address emergent situations that may involve the risk of potential violence, which typically require some form of active intervention; or for actual violent events themselves, which demand some form of active response. The size of an organization usually plays a dominant role in whether or not it makes sense to develop a fully organic capability, or to look to external resources for some or all of this highly specialized functionality.
For intervention purposes, some internal organization element that addresses threat management is always useful and, depending on scale, can often be integrated with other organizational efforts related to employee recruitment, development, management, and overall safety and security . This is usually a multi-disciplinary effort and, as such, it’s helpful to have some initial as well as annual refresher threat management training to ensure all members share a common subject matter background. In situations requiring active response to imminent or actual violence, organizations may often seek external expertise for situationally specific guidance and assistance.
